MAISON MARTHA
Angoulême possesses the understated charm of a city you only pass through, until the day you truly stop. Maison Martha is a family-friendly holiday rental located in the heart of the upper town, just steps from the ramparts and half-timbered streets. This 100 m² house, with its artistic flair and private 200 m² enclosed garden, offers complete privacy and can accommodate up to 8 people in 4 bedrooms—a true urban retreat where the city fades into the background without ever being far away.
Selected by The H Collections for their Quintessence collection, it takes a unique approach: here, there is no polished decor, but a house inhabited by art—canvases, found objects, and distinctive furniture that resonate with one another from room to room. A secret garden behind a discreet facade, like a breath of fresh air in the middle of the city.
THE HOUSE
& HIS GARDEN
Behind the gate, a small courtyard sets the tone upon arrival, facing the facade and its blue shutters. Further on, hidden from view, the private garden offers a tranquil respite. Enclosed, secure, and secluded—perfect for families with young children, and for adults who have forgotten how to take their time.
As soon as the weather warms up, we set the table, stretch out on the deck chairs, and light the barbecue until the light fades over the rooftops of Angoulême. And on winter evenings, when the garden takes a break, the house takes over: pellet stove and warm blanket, the charm works all year round.
THE ROOMS
On the garden level, two bedrooms open onto the private garden. The Classic room features a 160 x 200 cm bed and vintage furniture—bedside tables found here and there, and framed pictures on the wall. The Superior room, also with a 160 x 200 cm bed, includes a dedicated area for toddlers, designed for families traveling with a baby. A bathroom completes this garden-level sleeping area.
Upstairs, the Deluxe room, with its 160 x 200 cm bed, leads to the adjoining Classic room—two 90 x 200 cm beds nestled at the far end. A beautiful yellow chest of drawers, children's books within easy reach, and paintings placed directly on the floor: this room has its own unique atmosphere, connected to the neighboring Deluxe room.
THE BATHROOM
The house has two bathrooms, each with its own distinct character. On the garden level, a bathroom with a strong personality—black and white photographs, a touch of red echoing the existing style—where elegance serves everyday life, ensuring smooth family mornings. Upstairs, a more private shower room, nestled under the eaves, with its adjoining toilet.
The H Collections has included a selection of Typology welcome products — because it's always the little details that make for great stays.
THE KITCHEN
The kitchen at Maison Martha is a place you linger in. Its sage green facades set the tone from the moment you enter—a color that's no accident, chosen for its character as much as for its softness. The large, generous, and functional central island structures the space and invites you to linger: you can have a coffee standing up in the morning, improvise a dinner between conversations, or set down your market bags without even thinking about it.
Utensils within easy reach, storage thought out down to the last detail, a work surface that's just the right size — everything is designed for cooking here with pleasure, without rushing.
Fully equipped, open to the living-dining room, it is the lively heart of this house with an artistic soul: the place where stays truly begin, the place where you find yourself even before you have put down your suitcases.
The dining room at Martha's House is unlike any other. Mismatched wooden chairs, an artistic tablecloth with hand-painted designs, canvases and frames piled high on the sideboard—like in the studio of a painter who still lives there. On the wall, a mood board pinned with photos, clippings, and scribbled notes extends this creative atmosphere: here, even the walls tell a story.
LIVING SPACE
The living room of Maison Martha is an eclectic cocoon. Soft beige sofa, mismatched cushions — linen blue, striped yellow, satin black — floral throw casually draped, wicker basket placed as a centerpiece.
Facing him, a stone library nestled in the wall, filled with old books, ceramics and painted portraits, tells the story of years of discoveries.
A generous plant stretches towards the ceiling, a guitar waits in a corner: this charming house in Angoulême has that rare quality, where every nook and cranny invites you to linger.
